The Aces and Eights Car Club
was started in 1995 due to a lack of venues (not a lack of Rockers)
promoting rockabilly. Many venues either closed or changed management
and the rockabilly scene hit a flat spot.
Two cats started talking about how dead the scene was, despite the
number of Rockers and the bands that wanted to play - there was nothing
to do. They came up with an idea: a club for Perth Rockers. We could
organise Record Hops when the bands weren't playing, promote and support
bands when they did play, attend (not necessarily compete in) major car
and hot rod events and meet on a regular basis whether it be on a car
run, at the drive-in or at a pub or club. The Aces and eights was
consequently formed with the main aim of the club to keep rockabilly
alive in Perth.
Members actively searched for and found venues to hold record hops and
meetings, soon resulting in bands getting gigs due to the large numbers
of rockers that were attending functions and all the passers by who were
attracted to entire car parks filled with classic cars, bikes and rods.
The Aces and Eights is a crowd of Rockers, Greasers, Rockabillies and
Physchobillies with interest in cars, bikes, rods, tattoos, anything
50's and of course supporting live music, whether it be rockabilly,
rhythm and blues, rock 'n' roll, doo-wop, neo or psychobilly.
